Just 35 kilometres from the campsite, Auxerre is a must-see! For fans of the medieval period, it’s a real invitation to daydream (period costume not compulsory!) A place steeped in history with its half-timbered houses and the impressive Saint-Etienne cathedral, dating from the XIIIᵉ – XVIᵉ centuries. Take a stroll along the narrow cobbled streets and pass by St-Germain Abbey, with its fascinating architecture, the Quartier de la Marine for a romantic stroll, and the Tour de l’Horloge, always in a picturesque medieval atmosphere. Auxerre is also the place to go for a leisurely stroll, a glass of Chablis (or two… in moderation!) and narrow streets where you can stroll like in the Middle Ages, but without the clogs!

Wine lovers, this is the place for you! The vineyards of Chablis are just a stone’s throw away, and the road that takes you there is a feast for the eyes. Follow the green hills and stop off for a tasting at one of the many local producers. The wine is to be enjoyed in moderation, but the scenery is yours for the taking!

Just 15 kilometres from the campsite, and still with a medieval theme, head to the Château de Druyes-les-Belles-Fontaines! Perched above the small village of Druyes, it offers incredible views and a great opportunity to travel through history. Legend has it that even stones have stories to tell… so keep your ears open!
Vézelay Basilica and the Eternal Hill: a heritage wonder
Vézelay is the local star among UNESCO sites and a major place of pilgrimage! If you love Romanesque art, you won’t be disappointed! Perched on the ‘eternal hill’ 38 kilometres from the campsite, the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine in Vézelay is one of Burgundy’s most impressive treasures. This masterpiece of Romanesque art invites you to discover its fascinating history through its grandiose architecture and panoramic views. Guided tours are available, so you won’t miss a thing!
Immersion in the caves of Arcy-sur-Cure
Ready for a bit of prehistory? Twenty kilometres from the campsite, the caves of Arcy-sur-Cure are filled with stalactites, stalagmites and paintings dating back 28,000 years! Here’s a warning to all rock art fans… Some of the rooms are huge and offer a real visual spectacle, with lighting effects that emphasise the beauty of the limestone forms, such as the room called Le Grand Dôme. It’s a feast for the eyes and a great souvenir to take home with you!
